Drugs users on the rise in Mizoram

Misuse of drugs among students of high school and college students has been increasing in Mizoram if reports by a weekly newspaper published is to be based.
There are also numbers of youths who started again on this habit after recovering from addiction. Drugs used as intoxicative drugs by youths according to the weekly were mainly heroin, Proxyvon and Parvon Spas. While a drug tablet ‘Pepe’ and erasing fluid (Erazex) are popularly used by the school students.
As per statistics available at the Mizoram Excise & Narcotics Department, the numbers of Parvon Spas capsules seized during January to May 15 this year had exceeded the total numbers of capsules seized during last year by the department. The effect of Parvon Spas and Spasmo Proxyvon is almost same and the rate of 6 capsules at the local rate vary from 100-120 in the case of Proxyvon and Rs. 150 for Parvon Spas. 'As the work/effect of the two drug is almost same so we go for Parvon Spa's said one drug addict.
Narcotics depaertment in Aizawl revealed that these two drugs are mainly brought to Mizoram from Silchar in Cachar district of Assam and added there are number of dealers in Mizoram who sell this drugs illegally. Saying its dangerous effects of the drugs, officials at the narcotics department has said, 'As all the seized drugs were without name of the company, place of manufacture and proper expiry date, so its too dangerous for the health.'
A doctor who work at the drug addiction rehabilitation centre, Dr. Sanghluna said that Spasmo Proxyvon and Parvon Spas are given to the cancer patients and if used it without proper consultation with doctors can cause ulcer and even cancer to the users. The drugs can also be easily addicted and as it is not made for injection the users.
